The Witch Is Dead (Anti Thatcher song) charted 1 on iTunes
On Monday, there were at least three groups soliciting readers to purchase Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead on iTunes or Amazon, sending it up the charts. Written by Harold Arlen and EY Harburg, the song first appeared in The Wizard of Oz; campaigners are asking supporters to rally around the version recorded by Ella Fitzgerald.
On the iTunes Music Store, two anti-Thatcher songs – Ding Dong! and Elvis Costello's Tramp the Dirt Down – were already charting. Other non-mourners pointed to deep cuts such as Crass's How Does It Feel to Be the Mother of 1,000 Dead, and No Bombardeen Buenos Aires, from Argentina's Charly GarcĂa.
In an essay posted on The Daily Beast, Morrissey rips into Thatcher's legacy, lambasting her as "a terror without an atom of humanity."
Morrissey has long expressed his distaste for the politician known as the Iron Lady, most notably in the song "Margaret on the Guillotine" off his solo debut, "Viva Hate."
His letter on Thatcher's passing is unabashedly brutal:
"Every move she made was charged by negativity; she destroyed the British manufacturing industry, she hated the miners, she hated the arts, she hated the Irish Freedom Fighters and allowed them to die, she hated the English poor and did nothing at all to help them, she hated Greenpeace and environmental protectionists, she was the only European political leader who opposed a ban on the Ivory Trade, she had no wit and no warmth and even her own Cabinet booted her out."
Thatcher died on Monday after suffering a severe stroke. She was 87. The former Conservative leader will be honoured with a ceremonial funeral at St Paul's Cathedral.

Madonna Secretly Visits Malawi
Madonna has reportedly taken her adopted children, David and Mercy to their native Malawi for the first time in two years.
It was unclear if Madonna took all of her four children. The singer also shares a 16-year-old daughter, Lourdes, with her former fitness trainer Carlos Leon and a 12-year-old son, Rocco, with ex-husband Guy Ritchie.
Madonna and her entourage were reportedly driven from the airport directly to Mchinji.
The singer first met David Banda at an orphanage in the western district in 2006.
She adopted Mercy James three years later from the eastern district of Zomba after a battle with Malawi's Supreme Court for the girl.
The singer's petition to adopt Mercy was initially rejected because she had not met the legal requirement of living in Malawi for the two years prior.
Madonna promised the court she would bring the children back to Malawi 'every two or three years'.
It was unclear at press time if the singer had organised a meeting with David's biological father, Yohane James, or with Mercy's grandmother Lucy Chekechiwa and uncle Peter Baneti.
Peter said the family 'desperately' wants to be reunited with Mercy.
'No one told me anything about Madonna's visit. I hope she has brought Mercy, we desperately want to be reunited with her. We hope we will be allowed to meet her,' he said.

Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe is free from manslaughter charges
Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe is a free man now that he’s been acquitted of manslaughter charges by a Czech court. Although Blythe was declared innocent in the case involving the death of a young fan at a 2010 Lamb of God show, the frontman wants fans to know that it does not change the fact that a young man named Daniel Nosek is deceased.
Lamb of God fans have breathed their sighs of relief, raised their arms in triumph and toasted Blythe with the richest of jubilance, but much like Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler recently pointed out, this is no time for celebration.
Blythe gives fans a deeper understanding of his current state of mind while documenting a visit he paid Nosek’s family, who Blythe describes as “good people” who “did nothing wrong.”
As Randy Blythe makes his exit from the Czech Republic, fans worldwide are now welcoming the vocalist home from his legal debacle, which lasted roughly nine months.
Mariah Carey video Almost Home marks her upcoming album
Mariah Carey was on hand to premiere the David LaChapelle-directed video for "Almost Home," which combines shots of Mariah looking chic in a black couture gown with footage from the Sam Raimi-directed film. While LaChapelle is known for his colorful celebrity photographs, this clean and sophisticated collaboration with Carey is all black and white.
"I think it's going to be an incredible movie, and it's kind of amazing what they've done," she added. "It looks totally different than anything I've ever seen."
In addition to inspiring her to record the track for Disney, Dem Babies are also influencing her 2013 album.
"As everything evolved and is evolving, they've definitely been an inspiration in a really good way," she said. "So I'm excited for my lambs to hear the music and for people who love music to hear a lot of these songs. So hopefully we will be doing that very soon."
Take a look at her sneak peak video
