Metallica will be on tour with Green Day and U2

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has revealed his band recently agreed to tour with fellow rock giants U2 and Green Day.

In an interview with MTV News to promote Metallica's 3D concert movie Through the Never, Ulrich told us the bands have talked about joining forces and going on tour together.

"U2 came to San Francisco two summers ago and we ended up having a lot to drink with them and Green Day following a dinner," explained the Dane, who formed Metallica in 1981 with frontman James Hetfield.

"I was told in the wee morning hours following this outing that members of U2, Green Day and Metallica agreed to tour together. We haven't talked about it since, but speaking for myself I'd be very up for that."

And, having headlined festivals all over the world, could the legendary heavy metal foursome be topping the bill at Glastonbury in 2014?

"Every year there's probably less chance of us doing it than the previous year, but it just looks like it would be a fun night out," said Ulrich, who this December celebrates his 50th birthday.

"We've been fortunate enough to play every other festival on this planet numerous times, so Glastonbury is the only one that's eluding us. There's such a vibe and it's maybe the most quintessentially English festival.

"Everybody who goes there loves it and obviously Michael [Eavis] doesn't need our help – I completely appreciate and respect that – but if he ever wants to get hold of us we're in the Yellow Pages and ready to go!"
