A park in Brooklyn Heights named after Adam Yauch in his honor

This weekend will be rife with memories of late Beastie Boys musician Adam Yauch and the celebration of his life began Friday (May 3) in Brooklyn Heights, New York where the park where he played as a kid was officially named Adam Yauch Park in his honor.

Today (May 4) officially marks the one-year anniversary of his death and there has been a movement over the last year to rename the Palmetto Playground in honor of the man also known as MCA.

Yauch grew up five blocks from the park and used to ride his bike and skateboard to the playground. Frances Yauch recalls taking her son to the park to learn how to ride a bicycle, and she says there’s a great sense of pride knowing that the place where he spent so much time as a kid now carries his name.

Horovitz also recalls special times at the park, stating, “Me and Adam, we were hanging out in high school late one night and we were walking around Brooklyn and we ended up in this park and he told me how he used to play in this park. I think he’d think it was pretty f—ing cool!”

The New York Daily News reports that friends, family, fans as well as his longtime Beastie Boys bandmate Adam Horovitz were on hand for the dedication ceremony Friday (May 3). Yauch’s mother, Frances, told the paper, “I just feel so delighted for this recognition. He’s had recognition from the whole world, but somehow to have this is my own back yard is really very nice.”

The Beastie Boys write their memoir

The Beastie Boys have signed a deal with Random House imprint Spiegel & Grau to write a book about their three decades together.

Journalist Sacha Jenkins will be editing. Michael Diamond (Mike D) and Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock) are aiming to "challenge the form" of the rock memoir and are structuring it as a "multidimensional experience" with "a kaleidoscopic frame of reference."

Last year, Adam "MCA" Yauch passed away after a long battle with cancer.

The book is expected in 2015.

Lil Wayne has been released from hospital

Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. aka Lil Wayne has reportedly been released from hospital. He was admitted to Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles on Tuesday night after suffering multiple seizures. Wayne is suspected of overdosing on prescription drug codeine following a 'Sizzurp binge'.

The concoction, also known as Purple Drank, includes prescription-strength cough syrup as its primary ingredient. TMZ reported his stomach was pumped at least three times before he began experiencing a series of 'severe and violent seizures'.

According to TMZ, Wayne has bounced back from the health scare and has been authorised to leave the facility.
Wayne was initially cleared to leave the hospital shortly after his first round of tests last Tuesday. Hours later he was found unconscious in his room by his bodyguard and admitted to an intensive care unit for 24-hour care. Earlier reports on Monday suggested he had finally stablised and was permitted to check out of ICU.

Celebrities have showered the rapper with well wishes and many musicians stopped by to offer their support.

Wayne took to Twitter last week amid conflicting reports about his health and suggestions he was near-death.
"I'm good everybody. Thx for the prayers and love (sic),' he wrote. The rapper has suffered from seizures in the past, most recently during a flight last October.
