CBGB The Movie feat Taylor Hawkins and Malin Akerman

Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters used the break in FF's schedule to shoot a film role as Iggy Pop for an upcoming movie about the historic New York punk club CBGB.

The film will take a look at many key figures in the club's history, from the musicians who played there like the Ramones, Blondie, Patti Smith and others, to the club's owner, Hilly Kristal, who is portrayed by actor Alan Rickman in the movie.

The film tells the story of the iconic New York venue and will be released later this year. The picture shows Hawkins' Iggy Pop stood next to Debbie Harry, who is played by actress Malin Akerman. The strapline for the film reads: "50,000 bands. One disgusting bathroom."

The movie will be directed by Randal Miller – who has co-written the script with Jody Savin - and was filmed in New York. The co-writing pair are also recently wrote a biopic about Dennis Wilson, the late solo musician and drummer with The Beach Boys.

It was recently reported that CBGB could be set to reopen in a new location in New York. The assets of the nightspot, which closed in 2006, have been bought by a group of investors who are planning to set up a new annual festival and have also been eyeing up potential new sites.

Hawkins' respite from Foo Fighters was a short: he's recently played with Dave Grohl's Sound City band, and Foo Fighters are already writing the band's next album.
